Do I need uninsured/underinsured motorist insurance?

If you are wanting to know if the state requires you to carry uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage, then in the state of TX the answer is no. That said, it is a coverage we always strongly recommend for clients here at Texas Savings Insurance Agency. Let’s dive into what uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage protects, and how it can keep you from having to pay out of your pocket for someone else’s mistake.

Uninsured/underinsured motorist insurance covers you for physical damage and property damage done by someone who is at fault and doesn’t have insurance on their vehicle. It also covers you if someone does not have enough coverage on their policy to cover the damages they caused to you. Remember, in the state of Texas the state minimum requirement is only $30,000 of coverage for injuries per person, up to a total of $60,000 per accident, and $25,000 of coverage for property damage. This means if you have no uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage you will be left having to pay out of your own pocket for damages caused by a driver with no coverage or too little coverage.
